Teen girl who ran off with Myanmar man found

KUALA LUMPUR: A girl, believed to have run away with a Myanmar in December, has been found.

Tan Hui Ming, 13, has been detained by authorities in Myanmar for over a week after she was unable to produce identification papers.

Her grandmother Lai Kam Yap, 59, had earlier sought help from Malaysian authorities and the media.

“I received a phone call from the Myanmar Embassy here two days ago and they told me they had found Hui Ming,” she said yesterday.

On Dec 30, Hui Ming left her house in Kampung Kubang Lintah in Sik, Kedah, without informing her parents. She called her family later saying that she was in Myanmar with a man called Kamble and that he wanted to marry her.

But she realised after some time that she had been cheated by the man and wanted to come home.

MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong said he would work with Wisma Putra and the Myanmar Embassy to bring Hui Ming home.

Meanwhile, the brother of a 45-year-old man who died in an accident on Feb 5 has appealed to witnesses to come forward. Chong Hau Kit, 48, said his brother, Yee Kit, was riding a motorcycle when he was involved in an accident at 7pm in Jalan Cheras.

Those who have information can contact Hau Kit at 016-335 0967.
